Edward Enninful Named Editor-in-Chief of British Vogue

Even though I love to talk about the ladies around here, there’s nothing I love more than spotlighting when anyone who has a dream can make things happen. So I am elated and downright excited to show that Edward Enninful has been confirmed as the new editor of British Vogue.

Enninful is a name many know in the fashion world; he has been the creative and fashion director of W magazine since 2011, and previously was the fashion director of i-D for two decade. He’s also contributed to both American and Italian Vogue, so the vogue name’s been following him around for a while.edward-enninful-new-british-vogue-editor-in-chief-14

Born in Ghana, Enninful spent most of his childhood in London. At age 16, he was model-scouted, and by 18, was fashion director at i-D. Between the years of 1998 and 2011, Enninful made a name for himself through his Vogue contributions, especially with his collaborations with the late Italian Vogue editor Franca Sozzani, on noteworthy features including “The Black Issue,” “The Curvy Issue,” and “Makeover Madness.”

Condé Nast International chairman and chief executive Jonathan Newhouse announced the appointment Monday morning, saying that Enninful  is “an influential figure in the communities of fashion, Hollywood and music which shape the cultural zeitgeist.”edwardeinninful

As someone who works in the industry, let me say that the appointment of Editor-in-Chief of British Vogue was no easy feat. Better yet, who would have thought that a black man would be at the helm of one of fashion’s most prestigious, and groundbreaking, publications to date (it is, after all, vogue).Featured_Edward_Enninful

“Edward is an exceptionally talented stylist who will no doubt bring an exciting new creative aesthetic to the magazine,” said Alexandra Shulman. In case one needs a quick refresher, Shulman was the previous Editor-in-Chief, stepping down after quite a few years at the brand. “Every Vogue editor arrives with their own range of talents and experience and Edward is very known, respected and liked within the fashion industry. I look forward to finding out his plans as soon as possible and working with him over the next few months of transition so that British Vogue continues to be the leading magazine in this market.”

We can’t wait to see how Enninful revamps the publication and makes an amazing impact on the industry for all the people of color out there with a dream! Let this be proof that if you work hard and remain tenacious, the sky, and even Vogue, is the limit.
