I Got My First Facial with Georgia Louise & The Power of Saying No

So guys…I got my first facial the other day and I am a believer now.

We were doing an Instagram Live on getting facials by Georgia Louise, a celebrity facialist whose Atelier is in NYC. When the invitation was thrown out there for someone to get it done, of course I jumped on the ball! Obviously, who denies a free facial by a celebrity facialist? But also, I had suffered the horrible consequences from Fashion Week: long hours, harsh weather conditions, congested warm rooms at night for sleeping, oh yeah, and no sleeping mixed in with stress.

Fashion Week is almost always my favorite time of year, and with my new job, I got to try a lot of cool things like going behind the scenes, working on social content, and write-ups on designers. BUT Fashion week takes a toll on a sista and her skin. Not to mention, I’ve never had a facial before.174_Jame-115

So we went to Louise’s atelier, where she assessed my skin and got to work. She piled on creams, masks, and serums, used technology to help with spots, hyperpigmentation and the likes, and rubbed not only my face but my neck and shoulders as well. I have to say, being pampered like that felt AMAZING, just because it mostly gave me an hour and some change to disconnect my mind from work, home, responsibilities and even myself.

I’ve realized that sometimes, you just have to disconnect. Of course, I say that as someone who literally works all hours of the day, but I’m serious. The other day, a project was presented to me, and I just had to say no. Could I have said yes and made it happen? Sure. But at what cost? I have learned that saying no will not kill anyone nor the world; people will make their necessary adjustments and the world will resume. Those are lessons I think we can all benefit from, learning that we are not superheroes and are not bound to fixing everyone else’s lives but our own. These were all thoughts that occurred to me while getting a facial done.

If you’ve never gotten a facial before, you’d definitely be in for a treat. For years, I’ve heard of the wondrous effects of getting your skin maintained, but as someone with very sensitive skin, I was afraid. Now I don’t have to live in fear anymore, as I feel and look like a whole new woman.

So remember, facials are amazing. God is good, and you can always say no. Self care is the best care.
