#MisfitMonday: You Are Only the Perception of What You Believe about Yourself

Today’s post came to me rather sporadically: I was in bed last night, and randomly started thinking of all my great qualities. Seems pretty vain, right? Wrong. There’s nothing better than taking a second to think about the amazing qualities within you. It’s those qualities that you can use to change other’s lives, including your own.

We all have amazing qualities about ourselves that we just don’t tap into. Unfortunately, I think we’re taught to be apologetic for being proud of the work that we do, the people that we are, and what we bring to the table. I don’t know about anyone else, but I love getting that wonderful and serendipitous pat on the back when someone likes something I’ve done. Even though it makes me uncomfortable, I love compliments. I love giving them to others. I love making people feel good.

Although I haven’t had an opportunity to tackle my “year of yes” (ie Shonda Rhimes), I have tried to implement small changes into my regime for a better, more proactive life. One of the things I’ve worked on is just saying “thank you”. Whenever I get compliments, I always tend to negate them, as do so many of us. “Oh, this old thing?” “ME?! Pretty? Oh no, YOU’RE the pretty one…” so on and so forth.black-girl-magic-event-2

There is a thin line, but a line nonetheless, between humility and self-deprecation. The same line stands for being confident and being prideful. As soon as I began just taking the compliments as they were, saying “thank you” and not looking for a way to shoot myself down, I found my outlook on life and on myself making a huge turn.

Next time you think of something negative about yourself, think about 10 things that you love. The reality is, you are only the perception of what you believe about yourself. WOOH GIRL! You are only the perception of what you believe about yourself. Change how you think about yourself, and watch your world change around you.

Your reality creates itself based on your thoughts and mindset. Choose to see the beautiful misfit inside yourself; the joy of what your worth lies in.

Love you guys!
