Ruth Negga is a sight to behold. The Irish-Ethiopian actress has not only
recently starred in Jeff Nichols’s film “Loving”, but has taken on a sound and visual of her own. Playing Mildred Loving in the movie, her own rich interracial background pivoted graciously with the theme of interracial marriage for the movie.
Recently, she covered Vogue’s January 2017 issue, and here’s a small recap of the article:
“I remember thinking, I’m just me,” she said. “When you’re a kid, you’re just you, aren’t you? It was when I moved to England that I felt it, because I was Irish and black.”
“People have always made assumptions about me,” she said. “I become very territorial about my identity because it’s been hijacked by so many people, with their own projections.”
The film offers a serious conversation that we need to be having and we can’t wait to see the receptiveness of the platform.
