Altuzarra S/S 2020

“The inspiration for the Spring Summer 2020 Collection came from sweaters my grandmother and my mother hand-knit for me,” said Joseph Altuzarra for his collection that brought on Parisian spectators. “They were made with so much love and care; I will always cherish them, one day passing them on down to my children.” He and his husband are expecting their first child together very soon.

“This season, I wanted to explore the idea of heirlooms, familial treasures and passed-down pieces of clothing; those items of special sentimental value that are handed down from one generation to another, tying the present to the past. I was interested in how a new generation gives these inherited and gifted items new life and meaning, sometimes repurposing, mending and altering them before passing them on. I was also interested in the idea of archetypal clothing, classics that you come back to, time and time again.”

According to Altuzarra, the foundation of this season’s wardrobe is tailoring, which is a fundamental pillar of the brand. We see it in suiting that consists of mismatched and layered shirts and seaters, down to the pairings of traditional knitwear with a more modern spin on classic dressing for the girl-on-the-go.
