When it comes to figuring out how to look rich on a budget, to me, it’s not as complicated as a lot of people want to make it out to be. First, pulling off an outfit and making it look expensive has nothing to do with how much you spent on it. Reassuring, especially for people who may not necessarily have the money just yet to afford designer pieces. On the other hand, it also requires a little bit of creativity and nuance, especially since you can wear the same outfit as somebody else but want to make sure that you have your flavor in style to pull it off. So when it comes to how to look rich on a budget, here are a few tips that I recommend.
First, make sure that everything fits well.
This is a step that I have tried to incorporate recently, especially as I have had to get things tailored and altered from not going to the gym and working out for over a year because of quarantine.
You would be so surprised how something as simple as a tucked-in blouse or tailored pants for your exact height or body type accent an outfit and make it look ten times more expensive and is how to look rich on a budget.
I would say that clothes that are not sitting in the right places can give a little bit more of a sloppy look versus oversized, and there is still a way to achieve those aesthetics while still making sure everything is polished. Set aside a few dollars every month to allocate towards tailoring and dry cleaning services when need be.
Also, make sure your clothes are ironed. I hate ironing my clothes. But it is a necessity, especially when you have speaking events or shooting photography or anything. You want to make sure that your clothes just look and lay the way they’re supposed to because it instantly elevates your outfit.
And it doesn’t matter if you have on a $5 top and $10 linen shorts. You can make it look like a million bucks simply by making sure that it fits right and that it’s iron.
Secondly, play up with accessories.
You all may not know this, but I love accessories to add to any outfit. I am an earrings kind of girl, and so I think that putting on beautiful gold hoops and maybe a necklace and a few bracelets or a scarf and some sunglasses really can take a look from an eight to a ten.
Honestly, accessories can make or break an outfit. For how to look rich on a budget, I would say that unless there is a reason you are not incorporating accessories into an outfit, ry and play around and see what you like. As I said, I like earrings in particular. But you can also go for a rose gold watch and a few bracelets. You can add pops of color to maybe in a more muted wardrobe with bright-colored purses or suitcases or backpacks. You can play around with different belts and seeing how a belt can elevate your style.
In another post that I wrote on finding and affording designer pieces, I talked about how my Gucci belt goes with everything (similar belt here and here). It is bold enough with the red and navy stripes and then the logo, but it is also muted enough to wear it with something like an all-black or an all-brown outfit, and it doesn’t look tacky. Play around with different accessories and see what works for you. You can play with jewelry. But also purses, bags, hats, scarves, belts, and even shoes and accessories. Some of my best outfits have actually all been from the thrift store. And then I just put a beautiful shoe with it, and nobody can tell.
Third, how to look rich on a budget is all about confidence.
It does not matter if your outfit is $5, $50, or $500. If you are not rocking it with confidence and a level of assuredness that you are wearing something beautiful, it will come across to other people as just that. Take a few minutes and cultivate your style, the way you want it to look and not how you think other people want you to look.
Unfortunately, nowadays, there is a similar aesthetic that runs on social media, and a lot of people want to look like that person, or that theme or that aesthetic. If that is exactly who you are, then, by all means, do you. But if that is not who you are, inherently, definitely listen to your inner compass and do what works for you.
I remember when there was this trend going around on matte foundation and matte makeup, and nude, glossy lips, and nude outfits. This is a look that the Kardashians have popularized. And it has now become the measurement of a baddie from Instagram or social media. But that is not who I am. I like bright colors, I want more of a dewy finish, and I love my contour and my highlight.
You can take bits and pieces of trends and try them out. But ultimately, you want to put your spin on things. And that comes with a level of confidence that what you’re wearing or what you’re doing is what works for you. Honestly, you shouldn’t care if other people like it or not. You know that you’re worth a million dollars, and you look like it.
