Vogue Italia has just released a sneak preview of their January 2020 issues, and it’s not just one cover — it’s eight!
Italian Vogue’s covers this month are illustrations and center around sustainability. The issue, on newsstands Jan. 7, has eight different covers. Each is a model wearing Gucci and all share the phrase: “No photo shoot production was required in the making of this issue.”
I love this idea and the focus on sustainability in fashion, especially since fashion and beauty editors have been trying to cut down on waste and consumption through packaging of products and production costs of shoots and campaign imagery.
Vogue Italia has always offered a unique and fitting perspective on fashion, albeit controversial but also progressive. Some of you may remember that in 2008, Franca Sozzani, the magazine’s former editor, famously published an issue featuring only black models. She was very much a part of Vogue Black and its exploration of Blackness in fashion, using the brand’s platform to create a space of diverse and inclusive storytelling. However, it’s more than just about race — fashion storytelling can articulate the larger issues that play around us.
