IMG, the official organizer of New York Fashion Week, has released its full schedule of programming for the upcoming season. The Council of Fashion Designers of America released a preliminary Official New York Fashion Week Schedule. NYFW will run from Sept. 8 through Sept. 13. Welcome to New York Fashion Week 2023!
New York Fashion Week 2023: What’s Happening?
While I won’t physically be in attendance this season, the season offers a jam-packed agenda for the fashion elite. I’m particularly excited about the UPS-hosted fashion show that will showcase HBCU alumni-owned brands.
As a proud graduate of Howard University, it’s been beautiful to see us represented more for some of the biggest events in the industry. This year, it will highlight Undra Celeste, Chelsea Grays and The Brand Label. I’m proud to say I own at least two of those designers!
The schedule features more than 71 confirmed designers, with additional collections being presented digitally and by appointment. As you all know, the week of festivities includes a lot more than just the shows on the official calendar. Often times, brands will have secondary activations throughout the week. It’s a really smart marketing tactic since a lot of the fashion elite and industry insiders are in town; for brands, you can drive awareness by getting people to attend your events, take photos at your activations, and hopefully network with talent.
As someone who has attended New York Fashion Week for many seasons, I have to give the advice that these events are probably the best if you’re an influencer or creator. Those are the events where deciders reside. I don’t expect any less for New York Fashion Week 2023.
What to Expect at New York Fashion Week
Thom Browne, chairman of the CFDA, doesn’t plan to show this NYFW.
“New York Fashion Week is an integral part of New York City’s vibrant culture and sense of constant evolution and discovery,” Steven Kolb, chief executive officer of the CFDA, said in a statement. “This season’s official New York Fashion Week schedule plays to this sentiment and will once again showcase the best of American fashion, both emerging and established. We’re excited to see the return of Ralph Lauren, Jonathan Cohen and 3.1 Phillip Lim to the New York runway, adding to the week’s energy.”
Once again, Spring Studios will be the central hub for IMG’s NYFW: The Shows. The preliminary Official NYFW Schedule is in partnership with IMG’s NYFW: The Shows.
I’m particularly excited about Helmut Lang’s spring collection, which Peter Do will design for the first time. “I am deeply committed to preserving the legacy of Helmut Lang while also infusing it with my own perspective and creativity. We are excited to open NYFW with an energetic chapter for the house,” Do told WWD.
The Black in Fashion Council Discovery Showroom, which spotlights emerging Black designers, will return for a seventh New York Fashion Week 2023 season. There’s also a Black Beauty Roster Excellence luncheon that looks to be very promising as they celebrate the best in beauty.
Many repeat brands will be in attendance for the actual shows. If you’re interested in learning more about the shows, feel free to check out the entire schedule on NYFW.com. This season, people can buy tickets to shows. While I don’t personally recommend that (for different reasons that I’ll elaborate on more in the upcoming episode of TheBlondeMisfit Podcast), it’s always an option for those who want access to events and may not have a publicist or PR person to help.
