I have a lot of things in my beauty arsenal. In fact, sometimes I worry about how much I’ve got, mostly because I feel like I always reach for the same things. Do you ever feel like that?
Anyways, if there’s one thing I KNOW for a fact I don’t have in my beauty closet, it’s a good bronzer. Now, let’s address the fact that YES, Black people like to bronze. Even in my chocolatey goodness, I still like to add warmth into my face, especially in the winter and early spring days when I feel super pale. So when I found out that Fenty Beauty was coming out with new bronzers, I got really excited. While I’m not a “YAAASS Fenty Beauty,” type of girl, I will say that everything I’ve tried out by the brand has been up to the standards that I have. I’m a big fan of their primer, have enjoyed the foundation from time to time, am a new fan of their concealers, love their matchsticks (which I use for contouring and highlighting), and the chromatic highlighters, which are extremely pigmented.
So like I said, bronzer mania is here, and I went out and picked up the last shade, Mocha Mami, which is described on the site as a “very deep [shade] with warm red undertones,” and I completely agree.
The packaging is very Fenty Beauty, and the color is very warm (duh, Jamé). When I initially applied the second-to-last option, it blended in with my skin, which is why I ended up going with the darkest shade. Thankfully this shade did work out, but I will note that if you’re significantly darker than I am (which undeniably a lot of people are) then I don’t know how far the color spectrum we can go before you realize that this bronzer doesn’t add anything to your face.
The bronzer comes in eight shades and is a powder that I applied with an angled makeup brush. What I enjoyed is that it also offers this perfect soft-matte finish.
For me, I love my bronzer to still contour in my cheeks, forehead, and jawline. While I know that the role of a contour and a bronzer aren’t the same, I love a product that still creates depth and dimension while adding a bit of life back into my face. The product wore fairly well throughout the night, and like most makeup products, complimented the other Fenty Beauty items I wore for the night.
Overall, I really loved this bronzer and think it’s a perfect shade and the right amount of pigmentation for what I am looking for. However, I do have an issue with the idea that browner shades may struggle with this product, even if a bronzer IS supposed to add warmth and not necessarily depth to your face.
Have you guys tried this product out? What are your thoughts?
Keep on working, great job!
