Even though every closet is different, I think that there are still wardrobe essentials that every boss babe and fashion ‘it’ girl needs in their closet. For me, I was always someone who sort of did things to the beat of her own drum, never really following trends or looking to the magazines to see what the new ‘it’ item was.
I always cultivated my own style based on what I saw people wearing in the streets, culture, music, movies, and I really believe that that is what shaped me and my eclectic style today. That being said, having worked in the industry for a few years now, I’ve seen trends come and go, but essential and timeless pieces are here to say. With that, here are five wardrobe essentials that I think you should have right up in your closet.
Wardrobe essentials: An oversized button-up shirt.
This is my additional take to the white t-shirt that everyone always adds to their lists. But that’s because if you’re like me, you can spill a lot of things on a white shirt. However, an oversized button-up can be any color, but because of its structure, and because of the fact that it’s going to be oversized, it can add a little bit more of the androgynous and menswear look that has become really popular both on the runway and street. I love ones like this.
I’m personally someone who loves sort of more of a baggy look up top, but even if you’re someone who wants a little bit more of a cinched look, you can always take a wide belt and cinch your waist with the oversize top. You can even unbutton the first couple of buttons and pull it over your shoulder and create an off the shoulder vibe, whatever it is that you’re inclined to do. Having an option of an oversized shirt gives you so much room to play with, with a variety of trends whether it’s with jeans, maxi skirts, leggings, or whatever.
Wardrobe essentials: A killer pair of heels.
Now, if you have been following me on Instagram, you already know that I do not play about my heels, child. I love a good statement shoe, whether it’s the color, whether it’s the heel height, or whether it’s additional details that make the shoe one of a kind. I think everyone should have at least one pair of shoes in their closet that turn heads every single time you walk outside. I mean, the shoes need to be killer-style status. And what that looks like is going to be different for every person.
Maybe for you, it’s a statement red heel. Maybe for someone else, it might be a heel that has a tassel on the back. Of course, people can never go wrong with a statement shoe like a Christian Louboutin, but even if you can’t afford them shoes at the moment, you can always go for a shoe that is going to make sure that your calves look really chiseled and be a pop of dynamite to any outfit.

I used to never care about outerwear, but man, was that a mistake. Once I started investing in statement coats, I immediately noticed a difference in my outfits and how my look came together. Don’t worry, you don’t have to break the bank in order to find a cute coat that works in your budget. Places like Farfetch, Moda Operandi, Nordstroms, and countless others are always having some sort of sale that will let you find the coat of your dreams!
