My Favorite Looks From The 22nd Costume Designers Guild Awards
Sorry I’m a little late to posting this, y’all. I have been RUNNINGGGGGG like someone was trying to snatch me up, but I’m here Anywho, a few weeks ago Mindy Kaling hosted the 22nd CDGA(Costume Designers Guild Awards) at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, CA. The event was not only executively produced by JumpLine and sponsored by Westfield Century City and Campari, but the CDGA is a major celebration in the excellence in film, television, and short form Costume Design as voted on by the Guild’s membership.
Guests included Honoree presenters J.J. Abrams who honored Michael Kaplan, John Lithgow who presented to Charlize Theron, Salvador Perez (President, CDG) who presented to Mary Ellen Fields, and Constance Wu, Lorene Scafaria (Director),and Susan Matheson (Costume Designer)who celebrated Adam McKay, along with Award presenters including Jennifer Beals, Julia Butters, Eliza Coupe, Nathalie Emmanuel, Tan France, Ana Gasteyer, Djimon Hounsou, Kathryn Newton, Catherine O’Hara, Lucy Punch, Adam Scott, and James Scully.
Janie Bryant wore this gorgeous over-exaggerated fuschia dress that had me stop and stare.
Nathalie Emmanuel proved that black doesn’t have to be boring!
Zaldy tapped into the black aesthetic with texture — that shirt though? I need it.
B. Akerlund gave me DRAMA with these bedazzled blue eyes and matching dress.
Normally I don’t like matchy-matchy outfits, but Ami Goodheart shook me to my core with this dress and shoe that look like it came from the chapel.
Constance Wu gave us serious shoulder action and I’m not bad at it!
Shiona Turini served us an elevated black number with this diamond-looking chain bodice. I’m here for it all.
Mindy Kaling proved that dresses with trains win. She looked PHENOMENAL and I can’t stress that enough.
Djimon Hounsou looked dapper in black and white. WHEW.
Ruth E. Carter was the lady in pink. I love this look on her and her matching eyeshadow!
Susan Matheson kept it cute, chic, and polished for the carpet. I personally felt this was a little understated for the glam, BUT I will say that the CDGA is a lot more about technical then glam AND I still think this look was fire.
