The Stranger, a secret location, hosted Christian Cowan’s Spring/Summer 2022 collection launch on Friday, September 10th, as part of New York Fashion Week. Cowan’s comeback runway presentation opened the evening, allowing media, partners, friends, and celebrities to experience the glitz and extravagance of his Spring/Summer 2022 collection. After the performance, guests went to The Stranger, where they joined other partygoers for a dance party to celebrate the return of New York’s fashion and nightlife.
Christian Cowan’s new Spring/Summer 2022 collection celebrates the city’s enduring spirit, setting a vibrant scene for New York Fashion Week’s return. He revives the club kid, a theme that has consistently inspired his designs while remaining true to his bold glam, and fearless spirit.
Christian Cowan started his career by creating pieces for the biggest stars such as Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj and Naomi Campbell while studying fashion design at Central Saint Martins and the London College of Fashion. He graduated in 2016 and moved to New York. A Vogue Fashion Fund Finalist, Christian has a youthful take on how the modern-day woman can dress. His collections possess his lively spirit where he takes classic silhouettes and transforms them into something truly head-turning.
Luxe fabrications evoke modern party vibes with an abundance of crystals, feathers, micro-sequins, and satins, as well as unexpected twists to eclectic prints like checkerboard, bandana, and cheetah. Known for using his success to help other designers, he collaborated with Yung Reaper, a former assistant turned designer who dresses it-girls, on two crystallized bandana halter and mini skirt looks that fuse the Cowan aesthetic with Gen-take Z’s on retro.
A sneak peek of an upcoming collection with storied Italian label Fiorucci, reimagining vintage designs that include famous motifs on modernized silhouettes highlights generational variations in the definition of retro. Adding digital components, such as airbrushing techniques and illusions created digitally, is even more unexpected. In a bold move, Cowan collaborated with Yahoo! on an augmented reality piece. Wearing a dress with a QR code enables the designer to personally discuss his creative ideas with the wearer, anticipating the engaging interactions customers could seek with their apparel.
What a fun and cool night for the designer and brand!
