Your guide to steaming and where to buy a facial steamer

On occasion, I drop some products that I highly recommend buying. If you purchase through my link, I may get a commission from the sale.

There are a lot of benefits to being a beauty editor. On the one hand, I get to test out many new products and ingredients before the mass market touches it. On the other hand, I get to learn about really interesting hacks, tips, and tricks that help make your skin feel better both inside and out. One of the things that I started doing a few years ago was facial steaming. And even though it’s something that you don’t see a lot of people doing outside of the spa, I’m here to tell you that there are a lot of benefits to owning a facial steamer.

Where do I get a facial steamer?

Now the good thing is you don’t have to go to a spa to get the benefits of facial steaming, and you can get a facial steamer for the house. There are many professional facial steamers on the market that you can buy for less than $100. But also, there are facial steamers that do different things. Now one of the most popular facial steamers is the Vanity Planet facial steamer. But I’m also here to tell you that there are options on Amazon, Target, Walmart and the list goes on and on. As someone who suffers from really aggressive allergies, and sinuses all year round, I use a facial steamer to open up my pores and drive moisture back up my nose when I am suffering from allergies.

Benefits of a facial steamer

Even if you don’t have allergies and sinuses, you can still benefit from using a facial steamer. By incorporating it into your skincare routine. The steam will open up your pores, thus allowing products that you put on afterward to soak in and go deeper. So the short answer is that everyone can use a facial steamer and that there is not anyone in particular who should not use it. Now, when using a facial steamer, I always want to caution people to be mindful of the temperature. These things get very hot very fast.

Cautions of a facial steamer

You put your face over a hot steam, while amazing in theory, can be very bad if you do it incorrectly. I, unfortunately, have burned my face a few times in the past. With that being said, I would caution you to first wear a towel around your neck when you are steaming at home. And also to ensure that you are walking a certain distance away from the steamer.

This is not one of those things, you don’t want to be right up on it that you kind of want to give yourself a little bit of space. Also, depending on the size of your steamer, I like to sort of move my face around as I’m steaming; that way, it’s not concentrated in one spot. But I’m making sure that everywhere from my forehead to my chin and everywhere in between is getting benefits.

Lastly, after your steam, you want to go in and go for products and ingredients that will work. If you have acne-prone skin, now is a wonderful time for you to put in your acne-fighting skincare products or if you are someone who is fighting against hyperpigmentation and discoloration. Now is the time when you would want to apply some of those put more potent ingredients. At the end of the day.

A facial steamer is such a wonderful addition to your skincare routine. And as I mentioned before, you don’t have to break the bank in order to get good results. So above I have rounded up a few different facial steamers that I have used in the past or that I have read and researched and have amazing reviews.

Now, I will say that there are some on the pricier side, but they come with different amenities and features that you might not necessarily see on the more inexpensive side. At the end of the day. It’s all about your budget and what works for you.
