As you may have heard, Fendi is partnering with Skims on a new collection. Kim Kardashian dropped a few pictures on her social media, and a lot of people had their thoughts and opinions on it.
Fendi x Skims
At first, I thought it was a strange partnership. Fendi is…luxury, and Skims (although it’s extremely comfortable from what I’ve heard), is known to be accessible. On the other hand, Kim Kardashian being the face of Skims presents itself with an opportunity to cross over to the prestige market. Still, the partnership has come at an interesting time for both brands (and while Kim has been wearing only Balenciaga around town).
Launching Nov. 9, the collaboration has everything from tops to mini dresses to tights and even puffer jackets. Kardashian shared with WWD, “Both Fendi and Skims have a cultural power very different from each other, but equally as strong. We share a desire to push boundaries, think differently and challenge convention which is why we found so much common ground collaborating on this collection together.”
Fendi Creative Director Kim Jones explained, “My Fendi is about creating something for every woman, every different shape — and that’s something at the heart of Skims, too.”
For context, I found out that the line is definitely more on the luxury side of pricing. Unlike the loungewear pieces which start at $10-$15, these Fendi x Skims pieces are in the hundreds of dollars. Seriously, prices start at $950 and go up to $4,200! The most expensive item is the leather wrap dress, which retails for $4,200. In many ways, I’m actually not mad at the pricing because it keeps the exclusivity component of the fashion house. Seriously, if everyone can afford something, does it lose its value?
Will the Kim Kardashian fan care about a collaboration with Fendi? I’m interested to see how time will tell.
