Mark Whitten Is On A Mission To Educate People On Building Wealth Through Real Estate

On a busy Saturday in Brooklyn, New York, hundreds of hopeful millennials, creatives, entrepreneurs, and more came out to the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge for a day of real estate learning as Mark Whitten — perhaps more infamously known as Markflipshouses on Instagram — taught people how they can begin investing and flipping houses while building wealth.

I was first introduced to Mark when I spotted him on The Breakfast Club, where he discussed building wealth in real estate without spending your own money with DJ Envy. The interview was dope, and if you haven’t seen it yet, check it out below:

Now, I believe that a powerful event is one that doesn’t just touch on one particular topic but a subject that taps on different people and all they may need.

I say this because I’m not really a person whose interested in real estate, lol.

It’s not that I’m not a real estate type of chick, it’s just a lot of numbers and analytics that I’m always thrown off by, so…I avoid it (don’t worry, I’m going to fix that — Mark, if you want to help me find some property in 2019, we good). However, Mark’s event was pretty phenomenal, first starting off with inspirational talks by Carlmichael “Stokey” Cannady and Wallace Peeples, aka, Wallo267.

Considering people had to purchase tickets for the event (which is understandable given the wealth of knowledge provided), you almost immediately got your money’s worth simply from conversation that came before Mark.

Biggest takeaway?

NOTHING in this life is going to be given to you.

Throughout the day, the idea that 95% of success is mindset was reiterated, and honestly, I was thankful to hear it. A LONG time ago, I learned one of my biggest gripes was with people who want success but don’t want to work for it. Many have seen TheBlondeMisfit grow over the past few years, and they always ask me how they can also build something similar. And the thing is, the answer isn’t grandiose, big, or even thought-provoking. It’s simply this: Do the work.

The reality is, we can say we want this or we want that, but the true test comes from seeing what you will DO about it. The packets of information were passed out, but Mark let everyone in the room know that what they then did with the information was on them, and he was so true. I learned a while back that you don’t have to sabotage or undermine your competition — they will eliminate themselves because they will throw in the towel. People don’t like to work hard. People don’t like to take ownership of their success, but Mark’s seminar was there to teach people that they have a choice. They get to decide what they want for themselves.

Anywho, back to Mark’s seminar. Attendees came and learned all the tricks of the trade when it comes to buying and selling homes, establishing and building strong relationships with clients, investors, and yes, even business-owners alike. One of the big takeaways of the conference was learning that while you can be skilled or talented, your network will really help you with your longevity. So, what are you doing right now to help build lasting relationships with people in the future?

What’s the first goal?

Find a deal. You can look on Realquest, Listability, and ListSource to find absentee owners (the people who own a house but don’t live there). Mark says there’s three things that could be happening in absentee situations, but nonetheless, all the options allow you to scoop in, get the contract, and then sell the agreement.

At the end of the day, whatever you strive to do, you should do it with all your might. What are some goals you guys are working on? Thanks again Mark for such an informative and educational seminar!
