I Walked My First Red Carpet for Lionsgate’s “The Blackening” in New York

Yep, you heard me right. I had the amazing opportunity to walk the red carpet as talent! Ok, here’s how it happened: I got an opportunity to contribute to the campaign for “The Blackening” movie that’s now in theaters (seriously, you should check out all my campaign content – I was pretty funny if I do say so myself!). After that, they also offered the opportunity to attend the movie premiere and even go to the after-party. And baby, when I tell you a time was had?!

If you haven’t heard of “The Blackening” yet, it’s a movie that came out with Lionsgate that features a predominately Black cast. It’s in the horror-comedy genre, which made it even more exciting as someone who truly loves horror. The opportunity came seemingly out of nowhere, but I remember seeing the opportunity in my inbox. And y’all know what I thought to myself? Yo, someone is playin’ in my inbox.

That’s what I always say to myself whenever something just feels like it’s too good to be true. I mean, haven’t we all been there before? Praying to God for an opportunity and then an opportunity popping up and not believing it to be true? So I responded a day later to the campaign request, got booked for the gig, and ended up hitting the red carpet. In a room full of gifted Black actors and actresses, we watched this beautiful movie come together and celebrated what this means for Hollywood right now.

For the night, I had the amazing opportunity to wear the British-Nigerian brand Onalaja. The girls loved the attire, but I’ve always believed you should dress for the part you want, not the part you are!

When I started TheBlondeMisfit in 2014, I launched this site as a place to inspire other talented Black and brown creatives fighting to make their dream come true. I didn’t start out with anything other than a necessity. And these opportunities now?? It’s only the beginning of whatever else God is doing for us! Remember, all of this and these opportunities only show that YOU can do this, too. You have the power to shift the Earth and make it conspire in your favor. I was just a girl from D.C. who had to dream bigger and better to change her surroundings. Be bold; ask for it.

So, whose red carpet will I be on, next?
