Rihanna Turned Down The Super Bowl Halftime Show for Colin Kaepernick

This week, Rihanna made headlines when it was announced that she had turned down performing at the Superbowl because of the tensive issues with Colin Kaepernick and the NFL. This isn’t something that has been a new topic of discussion, especially for us in the Black community — Colin’s kneeling for the advocation of Black lives has been something that has publicly and privately ousted him from many people. However, I had to take the moment to really commend my hero, Rihanna for showing countless people that it’s really not hard to take a stand for something that matters to you.

In a time now where there is a lot of fake activism (in my opinion), a lot of people can sometimes say that it is hard to support things and causes because it becomes an inconvenience for them. Take, for example, the hundreds of thousands of people who still tune in to football every week, all while the NFL continues to push the rhetoric that this Black man is being unpatriotic because he is fighting for Black lives to be viewed the same as everyone else under the flag. The man is simply protesting by kneeling, and a lot of people are pissed.

According to US Weekly and Entertainment Tonight, Rihanna’s turndown was spawned because she “supports Colin,” according to a source. I love that Rih is secure enough in herself and proud enough of her Blackness that she can turn down something that seemingly looks so big at the risk of controversy. Besides, does Rihanna even need to do music anymore? The woman is traveling around the work, coming out with new makeup and beauty launches, living her best life, and staying moisturized. Does she really have time to lend herself to activities that not only take her away from her empire, but also from the very foundation she stands firmly on?

By the way, Rihanna has ANOTHER launch happening right in time for the holidays, and I am excited. I don’t tend to go for cool tones, but I can’t negate that I am excitedddddd, hunty. What are some of your favorite Rih items? I personally love the liner, the shimmer sticks, oh and these highlighters that keep my skin POPPIN’.

So, if Rihanna can turn down the halftime show to show that she’s not budging on what she cares about, what’s your excuse?
