How to Feel Better When The Weather Changes and You Have Seasonal Affective Disorder

Did you guys know Seasonal Affective Disorder, commonly known as SAD, affects more than 3 million people a year? Yep, those random mood swings or bouts of sadness you get when the weather gets cooler and the days become shorter isn’t in your head — it’s scientifically backed.

For me, the fall time always poses a lot of issues, mostly because when you wake up, it’s dark outside, and by the time you get off work, it’s dark again. SAD affects too many people for us to not be talking about this and how we can support each other, so here are a few ideas I think you can easily incorporate to look and feel better. Oh, and my fit is all Modcloth (here’s the link for my skirt) and here for my shoes  — I hope y’all like my colorful vibes.

Get Active

I definitely say this in the most literal sense — girl, get your body moving! A nice sweat and those endorphins post workout can sometimes be all you need for a wake-me-up, or an extra energy boost.

Get Some Sun

Sun is the most important part of all of this, and I have personally benefited a lot from a phototherapy light. Even if it’s only for 10 minutes a day, get up and get outside so you can get some fresh air and some sun. You’ll immediately feel more grounded and centered internally.

Get Spending Time In

Your support group is sacred and there’s a reason why! Lean in to your friends and family for support, love, affection, and guidance. Some days may be bad, but other days will be great and will show you that it’s just a passing feeling.
