End of 2021 Reflections — Removing Doubt From Your Thought Process

Sometimes doubt can creep into your mind like a bad song.

Trust me, I know. There have been many times in my life where doubt has crept in, trying to tell me what I can or can’t do, who I can or can’t be. But here’s the thing about doubt (and all the other things that come with it): It’s not real.

Had I listened to doubt, I wouldn’t have accomplished even a fraction of the things I’ve set my mind out to do. There have been so many pivotal moments in my journey that have proven that despite the naysayers, despite the haters, and despite the natural ebbs and flows of life, doubt couldn’t stop what God had called.

I often think about creators and how we allow doubt to creep into our minds. Many of us are wondering if we’re in the right industry, doing the right thing, talking to the right people…and to all of that, I say that’s none of our business! *Tabitha Brown voice*

It’s not our business because the exercising of faith means we trust in the things that we can NOT see, knowing that it is working for our good. I don’t know about you guys, but I like to control my variables as much as possible, haha. And while we can say that’s being a Type A or whatever else, what we have to also acknowledge is that we can’t get so swept up in the details that we miss the real opportunity to see things through to the end.

For the entirety of my career, I’ve doubted myself because of what I couldn’t see. Meanwhile the whole time, I was slowly activating my faith to remember that before I go off of what I can see, I need to go off of what God told my spirit. In 2021, I’ve been on TV, I’ve done campaigns with brands I never imagined, I’ve done live shows and speaking engagements with celebrities. Of course, NOW I see that everything was working together for my good. But in the moment, eh, not so much.

So Misfit, as you end this year off, remember this: Your gift is YOUR gift. You have been called to do some pretty amazing things, and I’m rooting for you! Don’t run from the calling, put in the work, put your blinders on and focus on the end goal.
