Off-White’s A/W Paris Collection Gave Us Feminine and Sexy Streetwear

When Off-White hit the runway, I’m sure that many of us wondered how it would stack up against its Louis Vuitton show. It was a show which left a lot of us, or at least me, wanting more. While Off-White is definitely known for streetwear, a theme that Virgil Abloh has gotten under his belt quite perfectly, this season sought to explore a woman with a different type of intention. According to Vogue, Abloh said that he was “intrigued by the empowered woman who wants to dress in a feminine but chic way.”

But I honestly think that’s been something that Virgil’s done for a while, finding women in beautiful silhouettes even if she is a street chick. I mean, how many times have we seen women in kicks, sweats, bright colors, while wearing gold hoops, glossy lips, and a purse? The worlds blend.

Anywho, this season we saw A-line puffer coats, shiny leather and silk cuts, oversized bags paired with furry heels. Models came down the runway with pulled back cornrows and a fresh face. We also spotted a lot of these harness belts that seem to be making an appearance on many runways, but I didn’t mind the bright, neon shades it came in. There was also the nuanced suit, where Virgil paired a longline tuxedo cut with coochie-cutter shorts (hey, that’s what they’re called to me).

In fact, there were quite a few of these that came down the runway, almost to the point of repetition. Personally, I don’t want to see the same thing in a number of colors. Let’s try and show something new or different, right? There were also a number of dresses and pants that offered more feminine shapes, and I gravitated towards those. The collection was nice, but I wasn’t seeing a lot of variation. The show closed with one of the Hadids, and the collection ended with barely-there, skimming attire. I suppose this will be the collection celebrities turn to whether the weather is good or bad, hot or cold. Overall, I still think Virgil’s OW collections are stronger than his Louis Vuitton, but that also opens up the doors of controversy for an artist. We’ll discuss that at another time.
